For many years I have messed around with photography. My first camera was a plastic Kodak Brownie Box camera. I still have it amongst my collection of old cameras. It was such a simple camera. It is so different to my pocket sized digital camera I now have.
I think one of the first lessons I learnt was about light. Simply it was too dark and sometimes too bright. Images I wished to capture were either too dark or too light. Sometimes it seems nothing has changed. I was given a flash for my old box camera and I remember it used bulbs which gave out a blinding flash. Now the digital camera has a tiny inbuilt flash which illuminates the subject. I guess the box camera taught me some lessons about light .More complicated cameras taught me even more.
As a little kid I soon learnt that light removed darkness and with darkness gone I lost my fear of the dark. When the sun shone or the light was on, I was safe. It was a simple lesson but one that gave me great comfort.
I am reminded of the words of the Psalmist:
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27 (New International Version)
PRAYER;
Heavenly Father, I thank you that you are there to remove my fears. I pray today, you will be with me in every situation I face. Amen.
MEDITATION:
Summer suns are glowing
Over land and sea,
Happy light is flowing
Bountiful and free;
Everything rejoices
In the mellow rays,
All earth's thousand voices
Swell the psalm of praise.
God's free mercy streameth
Over all the world,
And his banner gleameth
Everywhere unfurled;
Broad and deep and glorious
As the heaven above,
Shines in might victorious
His eternal love.
Lord, upon our blindness
Thy pure radiance pour;
For thy loving kindness
Make us love thee more.
And when clouds are drifting
Dark across the sky,
Then, the veil uplifting,
Father, be thou nigh.
We will never doubt thee,
Though thou veil thy light:
Life is dark without thee;
Death with thee is bright.
Light of light, shine o'er us
On our pilgrim way,
Go thou still before us
To the endless day.
