OzThoughts Thursday 6th August 2009

Thanks to those who are sharing OzThoughts with their family and friends.

Early on most clear, almost still mornings I watch a number of hot air balloons each with a basket full of tourists move silently across the sky. Silently that is until the pilot gives a blast of gas fed flame to keep it up where he wants it.

At other times, I see helicopters and light planes taking tourists above the coast, city and tree covered mountains to experience the sensations of flight and discover the views from above. In contrast with these small craft are the big commercial planes which carry hundreds of tourists and other travellers to and from distant cities and sometimes other lands.

Many of us have sat glued to the television and watched the Space Shuttle glide into a safe landing after a trip into the mysteries of space travel. It is great to see the safe landing and I am sure many prayers for a safe return and then prayers of thanksgiving are offered each time.

Do you remember when 40 years ago we sat and watched the first steps of man on the moon? If you missed it then, you have probably seen the celebratory re-runs in the past month.

We live in a wonderful natural world and God has allowed us the expert knowledge to build craft that can take us above the earth on excursions of discovery.

I am mindful of the Psalm that was read after man landed on the moon:

A David psalm
1 GOD, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name.

2 Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you;
toddlers shout the songs
That drown out enemy talk,
and silence atheist babble.

3 I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous,
your handmade sky-jewelry,
Moon and stars mounted in their settings.
4 Then I look at my micro-self and wonder,
Why do you bother with us?
Why take a second look our way?

5 Yet we've so narrowly missed being gods,
bright with Eden's dawn light.
6 You put us in charge of your handcrafted world,
repeated to us your Genesis-charge,
7 Made us lords of sheep and cattle,
even animals out in the wild,
8 Birds flying and fish swimming,
whales singing in the ocean deeps.

9 GOD, brilliant Lord,
your name echoes around the world.

All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam:
Chorus
O praise him, O praise him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong,
Ye clouds that sail in heaven along,
O praise him, alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
Ye lights of evening, find a voice:

Thou flowing water, pure and clear,
Make music for thy Lord to hear,
Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou fire so masterful and bright,
That givest man both warmth and light:

Dear mother earth, who day by day
Unfoldest blessings on our way,
O praise him, alleluia!
The flowers and fruits that in thee grow,
Let them his glory also show:

Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship him in humbleness,
O praise him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One:

SalvationArmy3: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/salvationarmy3/

SALVATIONARMY3 was born in August 2004 because it was felt that there was a need for a place on the Internet where Salvationists and Christian Friends could come together and talk about things concerning The Salvation Army, their Faith, and all that is involved within it.

We are now the largest and most active Salvation Army Group on the Internet with over 870 members.

We wanted a place where we could discuss how we can be better people in this world because of …
• Our belief and trust in God the Father.
• Our love for Jesus and all that He means to us day by day.
• Our experience of The Holy Spirit in our everyday lives.

As the founder of SALVATIONARMY3 wrote when we first came into being ...“It is my Prayer that this group stays a Holy place, where JESUS is the Focus of every Conversation, and "OTHERS" is the reason we meet.
I Love JESUS and THE SALVATION ARMY and want a great place to meet others who feel the same”...

If you feel you would like to be part of a vibrant and active Salvation Army group, please come in and join us. A welcome awaits you.

This is an unofficial website and does not necessarily reflect the position of "The Salvation Army"
