Last weekend , here on the Gold Caost we had the Coolangatta Gold race. It is said to be the toughest Ironman and Ironwoman race on the surf sports calendar. Held right along the Gold Coast, competitors are forced to ski, board paddle, swim and run, with the men’s course held over 46.65km and the women and juniors battling it out over 30.5km course. (see event details: http://www.coolangattagold.com.au/about/abouttheevent.aspx and course map:
http://www.coolangattagold.com.au/about/coursemaps.aspx ).
I noticed in the lead up to the race, the various athletes who were favoured to finish among the winners, spoke about their commitment to training, and their focus on this most gruelling event. There were great individual stories. It is good to hear the athletes tell their stories. For example, the athlete who was in a coma following a car accident just last New Year’s Eve. Then there was the athlete who was coming third who collapsed just 15 metres from the finishing line and was carried across the line on a stretcher. Of course, this meant her record was marked: DNF (Did not finish).
Peter reminds us that the Christian life calls for commitment and focus, and be ready to speak about our life. We of course, must follow Jesus example who went through it all for us.
1 Peter 3:13 - 18 (The Message)
13-18 If with heart and soul you're doing good, do you think you can be stopped? Even if you suffer for it, you're still better off. Don't give the opposition a second thought. Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master.
Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you're living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy.
Keep a clear conscience before God so that when people throw mud at you, none of it will stick. They'll end up realizing that they're the ones who need a bath.
It's better to suffer for doing good, if that's what God wants, than to be punished for doing bad. That's what Christ did definitively: suffered because of others' sins, the Righteous One for the unrighteous ones. He went through it all—was put to death and then made alive—to bring us to God.

I want to tell what God has done
Through Christ. his well-beloved Son,
How my poor heart he sought and won;
Can you wonder that I want to tell it?
I want to tell what God can do
For sinners lost like me and you,
Of sins washed white and garments new;
Can you wonder that I want to tell it?
Chorus
I want to tell you what the Lord has done,
What the Lord has done for me;
He lifted me from the miry clay;
O what a happy day!
I want to tell you what the Lord can do,
What the Lord can do for you:
He can take your life as he did mine,
And make it anew.
I want to tell of saving grace,
Of God's strong arm, his warm embrace,
Of blood that can all sins erase;
Can you wonder that I want to tell it?
I want to tell to sinners lost
That Christ has paid sin's fearful cost,
And saves unto the uttermost;
Can you wonder that I want to tell it?
What God has done, he still can do;
His power can fashion lives anew,
And all who trust him find him true;
Can you wonder that I want to tell it?
I want to tell of that glad day
For which we watch, for which we pray,
It must be near, not far away;
Can you wonder that I want to tell it?
