Oz Thoughts - Friday 6th November 2009

Years ago I remember the Australian entertainer Rolf Harris singing this song about two little boys. It was a good song and he sang it with a good beat. Now, if you know Rolf, he has a fairly rough Aussie voice and strangely, I could see myself singing this song. Now don’t be alarmed. I have never sung it. In thinking about learning it, I realised it was more than a nursery ditty and told the song of a strong friendship. It is the sort of friendship we would all like to have.

TWO LITTLE BOYS

Two little boys
Had two little toys,
Each had a wooden horse;
Gaily they played
Each summer's day -
Warriors both of course.
One little chap
Then had a mishap,
Broke off his horse's head;
Wept for his toy,
Then cried for joy
As his young playmate said:

When there's room on my horse for two?
Climb up here, Jack. we'll soon be flying;
I can go just as fast with two.

11"I've told you these things for a purpose: that my joy might be your joy, and your joy wholly mature. 12This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. 13This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends. 14You are my friends when you do the things I command you. 15I'm no longer calling you servants because servants don't understand what their master is thinking and planning. What a friend we have in Jesus,
