Oz Thoughts - Monday 9th November 2009

“She’ll be right, mate!” is an Aussie saying which swings from the Aussie’s easy going attitude. It’s an attitude of easy acceptance of the situation and probably rides alongside the newer response “Too easy!” They are attitudes which says “I am not going to worry myself too much” and of course that attitude does not cause a stir.

Here is what Jesus said about his reaction to what is going on and the advice he gives to his Disciples (and therefore us).

Luke 17:1-6 (The Message)

1-2He said to his disciples, "Hard trials and temptations are bound to come, but too bad for whoever brings them on! Better to wear a millstone necklace and take a swim in the deep blue sea than give even one of these dear little ones a hard time!
3-4"Be alert. If you see your friend going wrong, correct him. If he responds, forgive him. Even if it's personal against you and repeated seven times through the day, and seven times he says, 'I'm sorry, I won't do it again,' forgive him."
5The apostles came up and said to the Master, "Give us more faith."
6But the Master said, "You don't need more faith. There is no 'more' or 'less' in faith. If you have a bare kernel of faith, say the size of a poppy seed, you could say to this sycamore tree, 'Go jump in the lake,' and it would do it.

Hold thou my hand! so weak I am, and helpless,
I dare not take one step without thy aid;
Hold thou my hand! for then, O loving Saviour,
No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid.

Hold thou my hand! and closer, closer draw me
To thy dear self, my hope, my joy, my all;
Hold thou my hand, lest haply I should wander,
And, missing thee, my trembling feet should fall.

Hold thou my hand! the way is dark before me
Without the sunlight of thy face divine;
But when by faith I catch its radiant glory,
What heights of joy, what rapturous songs are mine.

.
Hold thou my hand! that when I reach the margin
Of that lone river thou didst cross for me,
A heavenly light may flash across its waters,
And every wave like crystal bright shall be.
