OzThoughts – Monday 24th November 2009.

OzThoughts – Monday 24th November 2009.

Eleven years ago today, I entered hospital for open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve. As I settled into the ward, I was introduced to the others who were in the other three beds in the room. I learnt one was recovering from receiving a heart transplant. That put my surgery into perspective. I was to receive a little valve. He received a new heart!

Later that day, I learnt the patient with the new heart was also a Salvationist and a bandsman. He knew my brother and he knew many of the bandsmen at the Corps I attended. Later, his former Corps band came to play to him and I hope he got as much blessing as I did. We also shared a lot of visitors who knew us both.

We have a wonderful God and I believe he not only guided the surgeons and others we had prayed for but he did much more than we could ever imagine.

Geoff Bullock’s song has meant a lot to me then and in the time since. It is the prayer that I pray as I start this new week of blessings:

The Power of Your Love

Lord I come to You
Let my heart be changed, renewed
Flowing from the grace
That I’ve found in You
Lord I’ve come to know
The weakenesses I see in me
Will be stripped away
By the power of Your love

Hold me close
Let Your love surround me
Bring me near
Draw me to Your side
And as I wait
I’ll rise up like the eagle
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

Lord unveil my eyes
Let me see You face to face
The knowledge of Your love
As You live in me
Lord renew my mind
As Your will unfolds in my life
In living every day
By the power of Your love

And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

Ephesians 3:14-21 (The Message)
14-19My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.
20-21God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Glory to God in the church!
Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!
Glory down all the generations!
Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!
