OzThoughts. Monday 2nd November 2009

On Friday night I had the privilege, with my wife, of meeting a Salvationist couple, Frank and Sue, from England who I had met through the International Headquarters Internet Chatroom about ten years ago. In our conversation, it was said that OzThoughts often are used by Frank, when he has to take his turn at band devotions. His bandsmen friends had asked him if he would meet me on his trip down under. Frank can now say he has met “MadOzzie”, as I was known in the SA Chatroom.

From time to time I get encouraging notes saying thank you and how OzThoughts had helped. A lot of the notes remind me of a Retired Major’s excited reaction to my first ever radio devotional broadcast. She was so enthusiastic about how good it was, I decided to push her a little further. I asked her specifically what did she like. She told me the music was just fantastic. I did not tell her someone else had chosen the music.

Many of the notes I get thank me for the excellent Salvation Army music, I include in OzThoughts. Well, I do choose the music but the source of my music selection is Salvoaudio.com and Ian’s Regal Zonophone Website. (Both websites have contact pages, if you would like to pass your thanks directly to them). I am grateful to the owners of these websites for the obvious huge number of hours they have spent compiling the excellent and extensive library of music available.

It is six years since, when during the visit of the Sydney Staff Songsters to our Corps and the singing of “He knows my name” that I felt God calling me from a weekly Internet ministry to commence a daily one. I started the next day, Monday 3rd November, 2003. I continue to enjoy this ministry and the discipline it entails. At times when I wonder if anyone is reading this, a brief note, or a quick conversation, keeps me answering God’s call. I must admit at impossibly busy times, I repeat some daily OzThoughts from three or four years ago.

I praise God that he continues to use this ministry and that many of his servants find it helpful to them in their daily walk. I thank everyone who in some way has given an encouragement. I know it is not only used for band and songster devotional thoughts but also for home leagues and in ministry in aged person’s homes. Of course, many also share it with friends.

One friend at our Corps started receiving OzThoughts and thought it was just the thing I would enjoy, so he decided to share it with me. Just before he told me, he spoke to someone else about it and they revealed I was the writer. The three of us had a great laugh.

A portion of Psalm 69 says it all for me.

Psalm 69:30-36 (The Message)
30 Let me shout God's name with a praising song,
Let me tell his greatness in a prayer of thanks.

31 For GOD, this is better than oxen on the altar,
Far better than blue-ribbon bulls.

32 The poor in spirit see and are glad—
Oh, you God-seekers, take heart!

33 For GOD listens to the poor,
He doesn't walk out on the wretched.

34 You heavens, praise him; praise him, earth;
Also ocean and all things that swim in it.

35 For God is out to help Zion,
Rebuilding the wrecked towns of Judah.
Guess who will live there—
The proud owners of the land?

36 No, the children of his servants will get it,
The lovers of his name will live in it.
[Look and Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXsiWoyjw60 ]

I have a maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hand

Chorus
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

I have a Father
He calls me his own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go

Chorus
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call
