OzThoughts Tuesday 15th December 2009

As I read John Chapter 1, I thought about receiving the Word. Some people just do not get it. John says something about them, too.

Sometimes the message gets confused in the delivery. Jesus, God’s son made it clear and plain. All the other messengers were lesser than the perfection there was in Jesus. They told of God. Jesus was God.

Sometimes there is nothing wrong with the message or the messenger. Sometimes we fail to hear. I am often intrigued when speakers for some reason will say “I don’t need a microphone”. They have it out of perspective. A speaker never needs a microphone.

Most speakers can hear what they are saying. However, the listener may need the speaker’s voice to be amplified so they can hear it clearly. The listener, who may have a hearing loss, needs the speaker to use the microphone. On some occasions I have heard listeners remind the speaker that they need to use the microphone as they, the listener, cannot hear what is being said.

John reminds us that

“1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” (New International Version )

But John also reminds us that Jesus came as God’s Word but many did not receive Jesus:

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. (New International Version)

But to those who received him there was great benefit:

12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God–
13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. (New International Version)

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for Jesus. I pray that in this Advent Season as Christmas approaches, people will stop and think about your Son, Jesus. I pray that as we do our part to tell out the message clearly and plainly the Holy Spirit will take the message to people whose hearts he has prepared for the message. Amen.

MEDITATION:

[Look and Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4d4UXSJXig&feature=channel ]

At the name of Jesus
Every knee shall bow,
Every tongue confess him
King of Glory now;
'Tis the Father's pleasure
We should call him Lord,
Who from the beginning
Was the mighty Word.

At his voice creation
Sprang at once to sight,
All the angel faces,
All the hosts of light,
Thrones and dominations,
Stars upon their way,
All the heavenly orders
In their great array.

Humbled for a season,
To receive a name
From the lips of sinners
Unto whom he came,
Faithfully he bore it
Spotless to the last,
Brought it back victorious
When from death he passed.

Bore it up triumphant
With its human light,
Through all ranks of creatures
To the central height,
To the throne of Godhead,
To the Father's breast;
Filled it with the glory
Of that perfect rest.

In your hearts enthrone him;
There let him subdue
All that is not holy,
All that is not true;
Crown him as your captain
In temptation's hour;
Let his will enfold you
In its light and power.
